This Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the National Park System. It is an important wetland area and habitat for birds, fish, and invertebrates.
Today I visited with a group of student teachers and students from a local middle school in Brooklyn, New York. They are studying wetlands.
We saw osprey, gulls, Canada geese, and other migratory birds. We also got to see two diamondback terrapins. It is their breeding season and they are coming up on shore to lay their eggs. [Extend]
